2009 mbp ram

I'm RAM stupid, so I'm sorry if this is a strange question, but is there any reason not to get PC3-10600 so-dimms for my 2009 MBP (that normally takes PC3-8500)? I'd like the option of swapping them into my new iMac when I need a full 16GB of RAM, but prefer the 8/8 split for the majority of my use. Will the 10600s work in the MBP and run at the same level of performance?
