I was looking for a genuine battery for an early 2009 Macbook pro 17". I was really fortunate that when I finally received the Macbook pro, it was the late 2009 model. (Apple will only service the late 2009 now, not the early 2009 17" version.)

Searching for the battery online, I only found one battery that was listed as new, and it was $200 + shipping. I couldn't find another new genuine apple battery anywhere.

Apple charged $180 for them to install it. (This was the 17" model, I think the smaller Macbook pro's batteries cost less to replace.)

Be aware that once the computer model has been discontinued for 5 years, it is considered vintage, and apple will not do the battery service. I believe that will occur at the beginning of March.

If it helps, according to coconut battery, the manufacture date of the new battery Apple installed was June 2014, so with the apple battery service it it should be relatively new stock, vs a battery that has been sitting on a shelf for five years.

Edit: I don't know what size your MacBook pro is, but I found the 17" at powerbookmedic. I went with the official Apple service, as it was cheaper than ordering the part online.

I have a mid-2009 15" Macbook Pro. So similar battery to the one you got I'm assuming.
