Thinking about buying the 2010 11" 1.4 MBA for my kids. Wanted to see how good they are for basic word docs, browsing the internet, and watching you tube. 1 daughter in college and son is in high school. This is all they do so don't need anything too powerful. Can't decide between that and MacBooks. The MBA are coming downing price nicely. Just wanted opinions on them. I have the 2011 and love it, but I use mine more than they do.

It's just fine for that. I had a 1.6GHz 2010 MacBook Air before I purchased my 2011.

Mine has been great! Perfect simple little machine. Delete iLife to gain some space. The only useful app is iPhoto.

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention I got them the 2010 ipads at beginning of summer. Also for to mention the occasional paper. So this can do it.

I still own a 1.6 11 inch and its still a thing of beauty. They will be able to meet your kid's needs and then some.

I think for what you stated your kids will be using them for, they'll do just great. And I'm sure they'll love how small and portable they are. I have the 2010 11" ultimate and I couldn't be happier.

I got a 1.6Ghz model, and it works great for everything I throw at it - browsning the internet, youtube, movies, word processing, programming, gaming - you name it. It feel way faster than my previous 2.4Ghz Macbook Pro (probably because of the SSD). It's really a very competent little computer, it will no doubt work great for the kids.
