2010 15" Macbook Pro 16GB RAM Question

I'm about to upgrade from 4gb of RAM and was wondering if I can push it and go up to 16gb. Officially, my MBP supports 8gb of RAM (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP582, MC371LL/A model). But I know there were some models where, despite what Apple says, would support more. Any ideas how to confirm whether or not I have one of those?

Max supported officially and unofficially is 8Gb... 16Gb support didn't arrive until the 2011 models came out and that was entirely unofficial.
