I know a large amount of people have made treads like mines but I still want to get some opinions from people who have a iMac.
I have a few Amazon cards and Im looking to buy my first iMac. I can get either a 2010 i7, 2.93GHz, 4Gb RAM, 1 TB HD, ATI Radeon HD 5750, for $1600 or a 2011 iMac (base model), i5, 2.7Ghz, 1 TTB HD, 4Gb RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6770M for about $1610. So both are basically the same price.

Im just trying to get the most value for my money. I do mostly internet searching, I run Parallels for my stock trading software, I have Final Cut Express, Adobe Master Collection, Aperture, and light gaming.

I know the 2011 has Thunder Bolt but I haven't seen any products out for it yet and most likely they will be expensive, not sure if I will be using TB anytime soon.

Since both are the same price mostly, should I go for the older i7 or the newer model i5? Thanks for your help..

They must have realized pretty quick that they made a mistake. When I changed my order the woman on the phone seemed puzzled that the two computers would be the same price. Either machine is still a hell of a deal.

From what i saw on benchmarks the 2010 i7 is a bit faster than the 2011 i5

Yes it is. So I might go that route. Just wondering if TB and sandybridge is worth the getting since its the same price.

Thanks for the link! I agree I'm getting the i7.

sandybridge wouldn't be worth it since the i7 outperforms the i5, the only things that might be worth it are TB and the fact that the i5 runs cooler, and that is entirely up to you.
