Hi all,
I have a 27" i7 2010 iMac, with the Radeon 5750 GPU, and for a while now artifacts sometimes appear on the screes (like purple squares randomly popping up). Most of the time the computer is fine, and they only seem to pop up when the computer has been on for a while. This leads me to believe that the issue is related to the GPU overheating. I regularly use it on Target Display Mode with a PC and it never appears then, only occasionally when using it as an iMac.
Clearly this is a 10-year old machine and I'm not very keen on spending £200 on a new GPU if I can avoid it, especially since the issue only crops up occasionally and otherwise the iMac has no other issues and runs absolutely fine. It has 16GB RAM and an SSD.
Short of a new GPU, does anyone know what I can to prevent (or at least reduce) the appearance of these glitches? Would some sort of cooling system (like a fan at the back or something, like this) help? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
R
