A couple of days ago, all of a sudden I started hearing this rattling noise. So, I downloaded smcFanControl and found out it was the ODD fan that was rattling. I searched online to see if I can replace it, but it looks like you have to take off the screen with some suction cup tool and so I feel it's a bit much for me since this is my first and only iMac. So, I might end up making it worse.

I'm wondering if this is an easy fix if I take it down to Apple? This also happened just a few months after my warranty expired so how much would fixing this issue cost?

You could call them and ask. Or just make an appointment and see what they say.

i actually had the same issue, they replaced my harddrive on the iMac and a few weeks later it started making the same exact noise...i really liked how the original seagate drive was=whisper quiet...these new drives they put in them suck..in my opinion as far as acoustics go
