My 2010 macbook has been doing odd things with charger of late.

I connect charger and light is orange then turns green as it spend most it's life plugged in.

So sometimes the light goes out and still has the lightning bolt on battery on menu bar.
When light goes out the tip of charger gets very hot, very uncomfortable to touch!

This is with genuine and compatible charger, although use genuine only used compat to rule out charger.
I even bought a new charging socket and fitted but still the problems comes back.

It's almost every time I comment charger.
I use my mac at work every day and worried about a fire hazard.

I cleaned the pads on laptop and charger and are nice and clean.
If wiggle the tip the light comes on but again after few minutes goes off again.

but screen stays bright and machine says it still charging.
I cannot afford a new mac at moment, and I cant face going back to my 2 year old Asus convertible machine!

the charger is of the L shape, maybe it fouling case and a T shape one be better?

Must be case or something.

I rotated the plug other way and it is stable now.
still little warm but plug not hot just warm.

light has stayed on too.
But cannot use LAN, Display output or first USB port like this.

Think need locate a T tip magsafe1 charger.

hmmm well.

disaster!

At work using the mac and boom shut down!
charger had green light and 98% battery according to apple menu bar.

tried all sorts but would not power back up.
unplugged battery twice, unplugged everything inside to see if would fire up but no!

left it on my desk at work after putting back together for a bit.
plugged in charger which had green light.

after many many attempts to power it up in between doing other bits, I got the chime!
and light on charger went orange...

once logged in had 0% battery!

I dont get that.

both apples own and battery health 2 said had 98%.

I have had new charger port, maybe that is at fault?
Will need check things over weekend.

screen shot if any help

So got to work today and plugged in my mac.

Had 74% battery and orange light is on, on the charger.
I saw there was up dates so installed 10.13.1 and itunes update.

Happily using machine and noticed green light on charger, still 74% showing on menu bar.
Battery health says charging with 37.5W but apple battery monitor says not charging.

So unplugged charger and have 47% battery!
charger tip is very hot to touch!

Any ideas guys/gals?

I'm using genuine L shape 85w charger as my 60w broke.
I have compatible 60w but prefer not to use compat.

Terminals in the magsafe port on side of laptop are clean and shiny.
