My 2010 macbook has been doing odd things with charger of late.
I connect charger and light is orange then turns green as it spend most it's life plugged in.
So sometimes the light goes out and still has the lightning bolt on battery on menu bar.
When light goes out the tip of charger gets very hot, very uncomfortable to touch!
This is with genuine and compatible charger, although use genuine only used compat to rule out charger.
I even bought a new charging socket and fitted but still the problems comes back.
It's almost every time I comment charger.
I use my mac at work every day and worried about a fire hazard.
I cleaned the pads on laptop and charger and are nice and clean.
If wiggle the tip the light comes on but again after few minutes goes off again.
but screen stays bright and machine says it still charging.
I cannot afford a new mac at moment, and I cant face going back to my 2 year old Asus convertible machine!
the charger is of the L shape, maybe it fouling case and a T shape one be better?
