I'm connecting my 2010 macbook to an external display via a mini displayport to dvi adapter and then just a dvi cable to the monitor which is a HP 22xi that supports Full HD. The issue is it looks rubbish! Font and icons are really jaggy! I've checked and it is running at the native resolution for the monitor. If I switch to display mirroring things look much sharper despite the macbook's display being limited to 1280 x 800 and hence the external monitor having to run at that resolution as well. I've got a windows PC hooked up to the monitor and that looks fine so it must be something is OS X that is not playing nice with it.

There must be some setting here that I have got wrong so any help would be great!
