2010 macbook pro 15" HiRes LCD with Benq 241vw, problems

Hello,

I just got my monoprice mini display port to DVI adapter and tried to connect my MBP to my monitor. MBP detects the monitor correctly and gives me a list of resolutions to use but my monitor's display isn't stable. It will show the desktop for about .5 seconds, then black, then back to image again. So it cycles between black and image. It won't stay on the image. I've checked all connections and they are secure, so I am thinking maybe its the adapter?

Has anyone tried this combination before? or have suggestions?
