If a laptop is using wifi and I plug in an ethernet cable, will it use the better ethernet automatically and not wifi?

I'm trying to figure out if I need to advice a friend to turn wifi off or not for better quality Skype calls.

His wifi must really suck if he can't make skype calls... Are you sure its the wifi transmit rate?

if you option click on the WiFi icon in the menubar you'll get transmit rate.

Mine is 190 at the moment which is still around 20mb/s
