I have a 2010 MacBook that I bought Lion for and upgraded it to. Upgrade was perfectly smooth. I am thinking of selling it because I just bought a MacBook Air.

My question is, to wipe it and prepare it for sale, do I wipe the entire drive and then re-install SL and then update to Lion? Or should I wipe the partition with all my stuff and then use the restore feature of Lion to do the re-installation? Thanks!

Lion is licensed to you. Since there's no disk to give the new owner, the license for it stays with you, so it would seem that a proper wipe would not include Lion. Yes, there's the restore volume, but it asks for an AppleID to reinstall, so they'll have to buy it anyway if they ever want to reinstall.

I'm not going back and re-reading the fine print of the license, but I'm pretty sure this is going to be a problem.
