I have a 2010 MBA that I only use now and then when I don't feel like sitting at a computer desk. I've replaced the battery a couple of times. Recently it demanded a new one so I ordered online. The vendor was clear that Apple batteries are no longer available for this machine; only 3rd party batteries.

The battery arrived from China after about a month. I installed it with no difficulties, but the MBA simply wouldn't recognize it.

I reinstalled the old battery thinking I'd messed something up, but the old battery worked fine.

The vendor sent our another new battery (another month's wait). I installed it and it seemed to work fine. I went through the battery conditioning procedure recommended by iFixit. No problems for the first few recharge cycles and then the MBA refused to boot from the battery, only from the MagSafe charger. As soon as I unplugged power, the MBA died. I tried resetting the SMC, to no avail. Coconut Battery claimed that the battery was fine and charged to 80%.

I shut it down and didn't touch it for a week. The charger was left disconnected.

This morning I disassembled it and removed and reset the battery connector. It didn't seem loose or misaligned, but you never know.

When I hit the power button it booted right away and showed 72% charge.

Any ideas what was going on here when it wouldn't boot from the battery? It seems awfully strange to me.
