2010 MBP and WD MyBook Live Very Slow On Mac But Fast on PC

All,

So I just got a WD MyBook Live. When I try to access files on it with the MBP it is god awfully slow...however with a PC on the same network it cruises thru the directories.

Is there some setting that I am missing on the MBP that would help it index the directories quicker?

Is this a format issue?

Update - this appears to be some oddity with naming. When I map the MyBook Live via IP it is pretty responsive however when I access it via it's default name that appears in the finder it is super slow.
