2010 MBpro 13" trackpad lags behind badly , sometimes it doesn't move?

Out of AppleCare.. 2010 MBPRo trackpad lags behind badly and moves on its own almost like its trying to catch up to where it was supposed to go... I took it apart removed the battery and ran it to power to rule out swollen battery... Restored OS back to factory and it still does it ... Does this mean it's the trackpad itself ? Just want to rule all options out before I buy a new trackpad
