A friend brought me his 2010 MBPro with a dead battery, I installed into it the one almost brand new from my dead MBPro 2011, did a clean install of MacOS and gave it back to him in full working conditions, he reported, a while after, that the computer won't work.
I got it today and what happens is that the login window appears but it won't get to the desktop, screen is filled with vertical lines (seems to be the issue affecting 2010-2011 MBPros among which mine which dead because of faulty video board), no matter if I try to boot in Safe mode (it just won't), Recovery mode (same) or from the USB dongle I created to install the OS back then.
I suppose either a firmware update gone wrong (he said he saw a progress bar then computer shut down) or faulty video board, as a matter of fact there is no way to start it up, thinking of removing battery and HD (which is an SSD he had installed by somebody) to see if the striped screen runs fine and/or if the issue is related to the battery.
What would you suggest to try?
Grazie
