Hello,
I have the opportunity to purchase a used 2010 Macbook air, with the following for the price of $500.

Processor Speed:
1.40 GHz
Product Family:
MacBook Air
Operating System:
Mac OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard
Screen Size:
11.6"
Release Year:
2010
Memory:
2 GB
Hard Drive Capacity:
64 GB
Country/Region of Manufacture:
United States
Processor Type:
Intel Core 2 Duo
UPC:
885909422586

Basically I am clueless when it comes to this stuff. I have used macbooks before for work and would like to get one for the home, casual internet, occasional simple video editing and storing photos. Is this a good deal at 500? any help would be appreciated

Thank you

This price seems pretty high. I think you can do better. I think I sold my 2011 with 128GB for not much more than that.

I agree with the above post. Also, 2GB of RAM may not be enough and 64GB of storage is pretty skimpy in todays world.

All I want to say is for folks who are buying used laptops: How many charge cycle on that battery? Otherwise u will be looking an extra $200 expense soon.

Also, it's taken care of cosmetically? Laptop's keypads get soiled with oily sweats over time if not regularly cleaned.

Price depends on your location.

If you live outside US that price looks OK. Not exceptional deal, but you won't easily find a better specced MBA for that price in most EU countries.

New base model MBA in EU costs like what.. $1250+
In US it's starting at $899.

That trend remains in the 2nd hand market.

I think the market price for a base model 11.6" MBA from 2010 is around $450-$475.

I recently sold one of these on Craigslist for $475. It took me over 2 weeks to find a buyer who was willing to pay that much. I had a lot of interest when I was trying to sell it for $500 but everybody flaked on me. I had some offers of $450 right when I listed it.

Mine was in excellent condition though with the battery showing 90% of original capacity so your milage might vary.

If it's in excellent condition & the battery cycle count is low I would offer $375 - $400.

Might not be a big thing for you, but is for me, the 2010 Air is the one that does not have the back lit keyboard.

Just as a comparison, I paid $599 for an Apple refurbished Mid 2012 11" MacBook Air. 4GB RAM, 1.7GHz Core i5, 64GB SSD. Machine has a full year warranty as well.
