2011 13"MBP to replace 2007 Imac, question about transfering files

Afternoon,
Hey I am thinking about getting rid of my 2007 macbook and 2007 Imac. When I got my Imac I set it all up and then used firewire 800 to transfer "make an exact image" onto my macbook. Can I do this if I get a 2011 MBP or do I / should I start from scratch? I would rather not have to reinstall everything.

You can use the Migration Assistant to transfer data and apps over with no problem.
