2011 15" Macbook with AMD Graphics buying advice

Hi folks,

I have an option on a 2011 MBP i7 15" with the AMD graphics chip (good deal with SSD and new battery). I've read online that there's been quite a few issues with the graphics chip failing on this model, so just wondering whether this would be a worthy purchase in 2018 - I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any insight on what the likelihood would be of running into graphics-related issues with this. I'm looking for a 15" MBP and this deal is pretty good money-wise so just wondering whether it's worth the risk, or if I'd be best steering clear of this particular model.

I would not do it unless it's very, very cheap.

The gpu is almost certain to fail. The big question is how long before it fails.

I wouldn't go for it unless the price is an absolute steal, for the following reasons:
- It's a really old model and it's not possible to obtain hardware support for it anymore, at least not officially
- The question is not whether the GPU will fail, but when: all cards are defective by design and will eventually die

In short: I'd steer clear.
