So I have a 2011 macbook pro 2.4 Ghz core i5 with 4gigs of ram and when I edit 1080p video on final cut pro the fans kick real loud should I be concerned? Or should I upgrade the Ram? Thanks for the help.

You shouldn't be concerned and yes, it might be a good idea to up that to at least 8 gigs

Since you probably use H.264 encoded footage and haven't transcoded it to ProRes, the CPU has much more work to do to decode the video, thus it gets hotter, thus the fan spins faster.
