Has anyone else run into this? I'm not really sure where to begin with this issue to try and identify what is causing it and what I can do to stop it from happening.
I have a 2011 iMac 24" base model with a wired ethernet connection on my home network.
The connection seems to out of the blue drop and I can't get it working again without rebooting the machine. I've disabled and re-enabled the NIC under system and it still does not work.
It has a static IP assigned and it's the same I've set my Macs up for years. I have GoToMyPc on it and it says on the site when the machine was last reachable and that's been the only way to get an idea of when it's dropped out from anther machine. It for some reasons seems to have in the early hours often times. Around maybe 4AM but not always. Yesterday I was using the machine around 1PM and then couldn't get to it again around 2PM. Then rebooted it and was using it last night and then tried it just a few moments ago today (the following day around 2:45PM) and same thing, it's dead and I can't get it working without rebooting it.
In system under the NIC it doesn't show it's disconnected and I'd assume it thinks it still is.
I have other machines on this network and no other ones seem to be having this issue so it does seem contained to this specific iMac.
Has anyone else seen anything related? Does the iMac or Lion have a NIC power save function that's kicking in for some reason but maybe not coming back right? I leave my iMac on 24/7 and use it like a server with sFTP/HTTP/DLNA being served out from it.
If there is a NIC hardware sleep function, is there a way to completely disable it? I know for example in Windows if you go to the NIC properties and click on hardware there's a tap usually that says power and by default it's checked to enable power management on the NIC and put it to sleep. That is something I always disable on Windows boxes to avoid issues like that.
