Is it possible to add 2x4Gb ram modules to a 27inch iMac using the empty slots making a total of 12Gb?

Or does each ram stick have to match exactly?

I have a question along the same lines (not trying to thread jack)

I found a pretty good deal on amazon $43.99:

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-DDR3-...A1333C9/dp/tech-data/B002YUF8ZG/ref=de_a_smtd

I also found this on Newegg $51.99:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233215

Model numbers are different, but specs seem to be the same. The one on Newegg says "Mac Memory."

Is there a difference, or should i just go with the cheaper RAM on amazon? I also have a prime membership so 2 day free shipping would be a plus too.

Thanks!

I bought the exact same Corsair from Amazon, just received this morning and popped the RAM into my iMac, no issues with install and no more page outs now :)

Can't beat the price $ 43.99 - $10 rebate = $ 33.99 !!

Is this a plug and play change? I am changing out a dead internal hard drive and thought about upgrading ram also. I have a 2009 27" iMac.

I'm about to order 8 GB's of RAM for my 2 empty slots on my 2011 27" iMac (3.4 ghz i7), to make it a total of 16 GB's

Will either of these work? If so, which would you guys recommend between the Corsair and Crucial? (same price on amazon) . . and are there better RAM than these that anyone would recommend for my iMac?

I know nothing about RAM or how to install it, but it doesn't sound too difficult . . I'm gonna give it try. Hope I don't F-UP my computer

mix and matching ram, a problem?

Someone posted in another thread that mixing ram, like 2gig cards with 4 gig cards isn't so good. True?

Good stuff. Tripling your iMac's memory for a mere $40 is such a no-brainer. I doubt you'll have any issues installing it.

My iMac currently has 8gb of factory installed ram (2x4gb). Doubling that to 16gb is probably a bit overkill, but like Yashi states, for $40, I figured why the hell not !! :D
