2011 imac as a monitor for 2014 mac mini?

I have one of those 2011 imac's known for the video card going out. However i'm outside the 4 year replacement window for that.

My question is, with a dying/dead video card, could I just use the imac as a monitor only for a 2014 mac mini? I'm thinking no but thought i'd ask.

I really don't think so since it would involve using the video card internal to the iMac.
