I will be getting a new computer soon and would like to do some video editing using a final cut studio X, which computer would be better performance see the upgrades below. While neither is a top of line. I know the mbp with a monitor is quite a bit more $ but if i get than imac I will get a laptop anyways for daily task.

2011 mbp 15/2.0ghz i7/256 mb video/ upgraded 8gb ram/upgrade vertex 3 ssd

2011 imac base i5 2.5/512 video/ upgraded 16 gb (if needed)/stock hd

what are you thoughts? I am open to suggestions and other options. The imac seems to have better graphics but does SSD push the 15 mbp to win? would it be worth extra $ 15 mbp upgraded to 2.2 to get better video card. So where is the power needed for video editing?

IMO a 15" MBP is is the best choice as you'll have a wide range of monitors when your ready to purchase one. Regardless of which MBP you pick, I'd recommend a SSD. As far as Final Cut goes, If the videos you want to edit are family stuff/hobby then go with the 2.0. If these videos make you money then go 2.2.
