I am going to get the Core i7 27" iMac (2011). Is there really any point in having 2GB of VRAM, especially since it is already GDDR5 VRAM? I will probably end up buying it since it is only $80 extra with the edu. discount, but will it really benefit any applications?

I don't do any heavy video editing or anything, mostly programming and creating documents for school, so I doubt I will take advantage of even the basic 1GB. I guess it would help future-proof my machine, though.

What are your thoughts?

Not needed for your current computational needs, but if the 60£ are not a problem for you and you might be getting into gaming or GPU intensive applications, it might be nice to have.
