the amd radeon hd 6970m 1gb gddrs card has failed in my desktop
can i buy a new one and swap in/out the old one?
the serial num is C02GH02VDHJW
3.1 quad core intel i5
on the net they talk about a 6970 2gb card - would that work

The 6970M in the 27" 2011 Sandy Bridge iMacs is covered by Apple under an extended repair program.

You can have it repaired by Apple free of charge.

Absolutely. The 6970 in my mid 2011 iMac was replaced last month at no charge. Only certain serial numbers qualify and you need to have it replaced within 3 years from purchase date.
