Greetings... hoping someone can give me some insight before I book my iMac in to be looked at.

It's a 27", 2011 2.7GHz i5 with the AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB display card.

About a month back, it started to give me some serious issues with the display - it was showing the desktop off-center (what should have been on the far left was pushed to the left and appeared on the right side, with the split being about 1/3 of the way from the right side), would suddenly just go blank with a dark screen, or display a lot of vertical lines, all of which could only be solved by rebooting. It got to the point where it was unusable. I tried reseating the RAM sticks, no real change. I reinstalled the OS from scratch, no change. Then I went on vacation for 2 weeks, came back and it's as right as rain.

What on earth could the problem be?? My chief suspect was the video card, but one would have thought if that was on the way out, there's no way it could be suddenly OK again? Makes no sense.

Thanks for reading and would love to hear some input. There seems to be little sense in taking it to Apple to be looked at if there's nothing apparently wrong with it right now...
