My iMac started making very annoying noises which is a known problem with the power supply. I opened up the iMac to check on it and found this:

Is that the way these things look like? Is the creamy yellow stuff some kind of thermal paste? Or is this power supply damaged?

The iMac does still work, it starts making the noise when playing games and increases when i higher the brightness.

Any quick help would be greatly appreciated!
 
Looks like they used glue to keep the parts in place before soldering them. There isn't any visible damage at least. What you hear might be coil noise.
 
Thanks for your reply. I wasn't aware of coil noise until now, that could be it. I'll try to re-assamble the imac taking note of the cables.
