2011 iMac, slow performance?

Have had the base line 2011 iMac (i5 Quad) for a few weeks now and am a bit dissapointed in a very tasks, namely things like games for example tf2, its fine in gameplay but it takes over 15 minutes to open up taking on endless rainbow balls of death on its way

is it just the way this game loads or have i set it up wrong?

Fifteen minutes to load a game?? You may have a bad hard drive.
