Hi,
I'm working with computers some time, but on apple macbooks only last 3 years, so I'd like to get your advise.
introduction: My first macbook was early 2008 bought as used somewhen in 2010 year. Second - current 17'' bought at May 2011.
Now it's slow. Very slow. I've heard some opinions that upgrading to last OSX might help (I have 10.7.5), also maybe clean install - because when I bought current one I used option to restore time machine backup, so I might have some garbage in the system from my first year of using first mac when I didn't know the system at all.
I'm using this computer for work and pleasure, roughly from 8 to 12 hours daily it's on. Now, after 2 years it have 5 scratched keys (black pink i going off and keys are transparent), few scratches below the keyboard, battery is working for 1.5 hour ( https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/822537/battery_info.txt ) - so it's under heavy use in my case.
that's why I'm not sure if I should buy SSD drive and use it for another year, or - because it's heavy used and tired, maybe just buy a new macbook.
I'm tempted to go for new macbook - because of retina, because it'll be new with guarantee, and because it has 2 thunderbolts + hdmi (I want to connect 2 displays someday, and at my 2011 macbook I can do it only with using Apple Thunderbolt)..
What do you think? Should I upgrade it and hope it will last for next year? Or maybe just for peace of mind replace it, since I'm working it, I need computer I can rely on- without too much risk that it will broke, I'll have to buy whatever computer (some cheap replacement) for the few days/weeks needed for service.
TL;DR: How tough are apple macbooks? After 2 years of heavy use I can upgrade it and trust it will work for next year, or maybe better replace it?
