2011 Macbook Pro - Backlit Keys Always On

I just bought my macbook pro today. I've noticed that my macbook pro's keyboard is always lit on, even in bright conditions. The option in system preference, "Illuminate keyboard in lowlight conditions" is checked, and the lighting is still on despite the bright conditions. When I uncheck it, the light turns off. I can manually turn it off, but I would like if it was automatic. Is this a common problem and is there any way to fix it?

Yes I have the same issue, let's hope it's resolved in a future update

Thanks for your reply. Provided me with reassurance that I'm not the only one and that the issue may be resolved by apple in the near future.
