2011 Macbook Pro doesn't recognise audio devices

Hi, I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro and I'm having it stops recognising audio output devices when the device is being changed. When I unplug one audio output device (eg speakers) and plug in another device (eg headphones) it doesn't seems to recognise it and uses built-in speakers instead. But if I put the mac to sleep and wake it then it uses headphones to output audio. Any ideas?
 
I installed the update came recently that seems to be addressing an issue with the Mountain Lion audio drivers. But I'm still having the same problem.
