2011 Macbook Pros USBs, have enough power to use Apple external keyboard's USB ports

I have discovered that my 2011 macbook pro has enough power to use the Apple external keyboard's USB ports with my camera, pen drives, and USB HARD DRIVES!!! etc. A thing that my older laptop couldn't (a message appeared telling me that the system hadn't enough power)
This corroborates this info, reccently posted on 9to5mac's main page.

My 500gb USB Lacie hard drive atached to my apple's alluminium keyboard works on all USB ports

Yeah I just read that article about being able to charge iPad. Nice. Although the old ones could do it even when it says not charging. Just a bit slower.

My 2010 MacBook Pros at work refuse to power a mouse and USB flash drive off of the Keyboard. I have yet to see one actually power both off the 1 USB port.

I beg to differ...
I power a mouse and my 16 usb stick of the keyboard.
I then have a 4 usb adapter powering 320 gig, 500 gig and 750 gig WD elementals + charge my shuffle. It never once complains.

There's been reports that both USB ports are quite high powered.
