Today I noticed my 13" MBP i5's ambient light sensor for the LCD isn't working like my old 2008 unibody MB. The LCD hardly changes when covering the sensor. My old laptop would adjust the LCD instantly.

I tried resetting the SMC and PRAM but that didn't help.

anyone else with this issue?

I have tested this on a 2008 MB, 2009/2010 MBP and they all behave correctly.

Yea the 2011 MBP ambient light sensor is a little weird. My LCD doesn't change too much and the backlit keyboard is on in almost every instance but under DIRECT sunlight. Kind of annoying when I'm not plugged in.

Mine isn't working at ALL, but I don't really care--I prefer to adjust myself anyway. But even when all turned on in preferences and completely covered, neither the keyboard nor the display change. I guess it's only slightly annoying when I'm using it in full-on light and I realize that the keyboard's been lit on full blast for ages when I'm running on battery. But I'm learning to pay attention myself and just keep the sensor off.
