Quick question:

I'm looking at purchasing a new bottom case for my 2010 MBP. I'm curious though, what's the difference between the 2009-2012 (A1286) bottom cases? Theoretically, they should all be identical. Although, I'm noticing a somewhat shocking difference in price between them.

For example:

2011 bottom case:

Notice the difference in shielding/insulation plastic on the underside?

Looks to me as if the 2011 has cutouts for where the fans are to allow the bottom case to cool a bit quicker. But I don't think it's worth spending a lot extra unless you really want to.

2010-2012 bottom covers should all be the same. The 2008 cover won't work as that's in two pieces, and some of the 2009 covers might not work because the base model 15" in 2009 only has one fan.

Ironically, 2011 and 2012 bottom cases are cheaper than 2010 bottom cases.

That is ironic. I would go for the 2011 bottom case then. Since the screws have not changed between 2010 and 2012, it will fit no problem.
