Anyone have suggestions on how connect a bunch of internal SATA drives to a 2011 MBP?

I'm about to buy a 2011 MBP. I need a laptop and I also need to replace my Mac Pro 1,1 which is showing its age. I'm a photographer and also shoot video, so I've got lots of drives: currently 4 inside the MP, and a bunch more that I use in 2 FW800 docks.

I'm thinking of getting a 4 or 8 bay enclosure for the MBP for my drives (in JBOD, not RAID). I'd love to go with Thunderbolt, but those multi-bay enclosures are really expensive. The USB 3.0 and eSATA ones are much less expensive. I haven't found many 4 bay FW 800 enclosures (and I guess that would be slower than eSATA And USB 3.0 anyhow).

I'm curious about the Lacie Tbolt eSATA hub, but am not sure if it works with 4 or 8 bay enclosures. I've heard that USB 3.0 is fast but not reliable for moving lots of data.

I'm planning on selling the MP so can't use that as file server (unless I can't come up with a better solution).

I'm looking at the MBP 15" refurbs at the Apple store; probably one of the Feb '11 ones with 750gb drive. They have FW800 just in case I still need that, as well as Tbolt (and USB 2.0).
