Hi All,

I planned repairing thermal paste on my 2011 MBP...

I was wondering if I really need a wrist strap to ground myself?

They don't mention it in the tutorials I watched...

Previously I've done repairs on my laptop (new hard drives/ram/fan cleaning) and I was completely ignorant to static electricity... It seems I've gotten away with it so far anyway...

If you make contact with the chassis with your off-hand before touching anything sensitive you should be fine.

It's more of an issue in dry winter air, but still good to pay attention to any time.

Thanks... Certain tasks like removing the motherboard will require both hands so just to be clear you don't have to keep constant contact ??? I was wondering watching the ifixit etc videos online they're disconnecting wires etc just with their bare hands and not spudgers @deeddawg

Generally speaking, once you've discharged any static electricity voltage potential, it's not going to come back if you don't get up and scuff across the carpet.
