I have been reading about the GPU failure on 2011 MBpros. I am considering selling the machine (quad i7/8 g ram/256 ssd) and buying an 11" Air with the i7 dual core processor/8 g ram/128 ssd drive. I use an external 27" monitor.

would there be any significant difference in these?

i use photoshop and illustrator 80% of the time.

Thanks

Unless you're going to work unplugged a lot, stick with the Pro. The risk of GPU failure is extremely high, however many folks have had success getting their machines repaired by 3rd parties who "re-ball" the GPU, which results in a permanent fix. The cost is about $200, which is less than what Apple would charge for a replacement logic board that would inevitably fail again.

I'd bet you wouldn't have any problems with the Air.
