2012 15.4 inch replacement clamshell

I need to replace my screen- the glass on the clamshell has broken (although the display itself still works just fine. I think...) so I am seeking a new 661-6505 but I find a huge array of prices ($140 to almost 1800 USD) so I am a bit unsure. Does anyone have a favorite vendor with a good price so I can repair my MacBook Pro (2012, non-retina. 1680x1050.)

Your best bet is to find a used one in good condition off of ebay. Most of the "new" ones are chinese knock offs that have terrible contrast and brightness.

I did a bit of research for you and this one here seems to be a genuine apple part that is in good condition and the price is fair too. I also emailed the seller for to verify they are OEM and they replied with "Yes, all our used condition parts are genuine OEM Apple parts. Edit: ... and they were sold out. Mine is a 661-6505 but I can also use a 6506 since the only difference is that 6506 is anti-glare.

You're welcome. Wow they sold out that quickly? Maybe try contacting the seller and asking them if they have anymore in stock.

It is really hard to remove just the glass without damaging the lcd. I would recommend replacing the whole clamshell since it is much easier.

But I can get the glass for only 14 bucks! LOL

My thinking was much the same anyway. I'll keep checking.
