Late 2012 iMac 27"
macOS Mojave 10.14.6 (18G9028)
Apple Wireless Keyboard (the one using two AA batteries)
Cannot upgrade to Catalina due to dead HDD of Fusion Drive.

Installing Catalina with dead HDD onto internal or external SSD via USB3 port causes kernel panic when I use Catalina.

I have been happily using this setup for over 4 years and today the keyboard has a mind of its own.

the problem I have is that certain keys involuntarily changes function on the keyboard

Some, not all, observed involuntary and unwanted changes

- delete key deletes characters to the right instead of the left
- fn key does not work when I press it down to change function
- shift + t does not create capital t. when I press the t button it shows a t
- left and right key moves the vertical scroll bar up and down rather than move the cursor left or right
- eject key does not work on shut down when pressed with control key

I tried reseting the Apple Wireless keyboard by long pressing the keyboard's power button until it blinks. It functions normally for a few minutes then reverts to the unwanted keyboard layout.

I also tried resetting the Apple Wireless keyboard by pressing Shift+Option+Click the Bluetooth Icon on the upper right corner of the desktop to reveal "Factory Reset". Same thing... keyboard layout is correct then reverts back to the wrong layout after a few minutes.

I also tried changing batteries that was at 76% to 100%. Same thing occurs... it still changes behaviour.

I've been using this iMac for over a decade. the keyboard was used for 9 years.
