Loads of speculation about CPUs, GPUs, RAM, Retina and blah.
I really liked my old iMac G4 - the one with the movable 'anglepoise' screen on an arm. I'm tall and this was excellent for me.
Now I've got my machine on a box to get the screen at the right height - so it sort of defeats the object of the super-slick, fabulous design a bit.
And if I bought a Mini or a Pro, I could easily choose a height-adjustable, swivelly monitor, but I'd prefer an iMac.
Anyone else like height adjustment when the 'new' iMac eventually arrives?
Just interested ...

I never owned one, but to this day the iMac G4 is my favorite desktop design. Don't get me wrong; I think subsequent generations have looked nice in their own right. But the G4 was a true standout.

One I doubt they'd remotely try to replicate again, though. They certainly could; a possible elimination of the optical drive and a switch to 2.5" HDDs could easily make room for a very small yet powerful base chassis, freeing them up for an uber-thin, and therefore once again movable screen.

But alas; I think we've seen the last of that kind of iMac design.

But they should make it look like there's and ODD or it wouldn't be the same.

It would be interesting to see if they can somehow go back to the roots of the iMac G4, with the 360* swivel design, that was quite sexy. But I'd imagine with the weight of the head, the neck would have to be mighty strong.

Interesting ...

Thanks for the replies.
Interesting that this design seems to be remembered fondly.
I do still use my old iMac G4, with it's swivelling height-adjustable screen, that's also YES non-reflective. I can still do all my routine 'domestic' stuff on it, although not access many flashy websites or run fat software.
Great machine, good design.

Yes I'm typing this on one now.

Now that i've seen LGs all-in-one I hope there is a redesign or some sort that will make it more 'comfortable' too.

I'd love a height-adjustable display. Swiveling isn't important to me, though I'm sure it would be helpful in some situations.

I don't mind if they revive the G4 design, but it would probably look awkward with today's screen size standards. But yeah I do want the height adjustable.

I would love an iMac G4 form factor in current materials. I guess it would have a Mac Mini style base, an aluminium rather than chrome arm, and a super sexy thin screen. It would be amazing.

The iMac G4 is still the best ever computer design.

I find the current one just fine, no need for height adjustable. Just hope they dont go back to the lamp. 27" lamp design, it would be silly :D

I don't think we'll see any kind of height adjustment on the coming iMacs.

Why not? For Apple, such things are a matter of style, not function or substance.

An adjustable "stem" on the iMac between the base and the screen would involve unsightly equipment in order to work. Definitely not "stylish enough" for an Apple product!

The adjustable stem on the iMac G4 was a thing of beauty.

I'm amazed at how many actually like the G4 design.

That design was a fluke to me. I heard Steve Jobs say that he really want an AIO design behind the flat screen but tech at the time didn't allow it possible.

G5 and what we seen thereafter is what ultimately Apple wanted, IMO.
