2012 macbook pro card reader issue

My 2012 macbook will not read an SD card.

System report shows card reader.

Took SD card from my dash cam to take a vid from it and well it will not mount.
Not shown in disk utility either.

usb card reader the card works.
I blew in card slot in case dust was in there.

It's not end of world as have use reader but it rather annoying that I cannot just stuff card in the side.

Any ideas what can try?

Got it to read an SD card but read only.

put same card in card reader and read and write is available.

Is my mac missing a driver for card reader etc?
the SSD inside is from my old 2010 macbook which did not have a card reader.

It was just pulled from macbook and put in the macbook pro, nothing else was done.
