2012 MBA 13" drumming noise

I recently purchased a 2012 MBA 13" and on 2 occasions now there will
be a drumming sound coming from the speakers that sounds exactly like
the sound when you mute/unmute the speakers via the keypad. This will go on
for a few minutes or until a power down/restart happens. The first time it happened along with the sound random characters were popping up in the open calendar window... Anyone else heard of this issue.
