2012 MBA slow write speeds?

I just got this thing a little while ago and did a Blackmagic speed test for the first time. I have a Toshiba SSD

My write speeds seem RIDICULOUSLY slow. It maxes out at 220 mb/s for an instant and then plummets to around 150-170 where it likes to stay. My read speeds are frequently in the high 300's to mid 400s so those seem okay.

It's a 13 inch with 8 GB RAM model. Are my speeds unusually slow?

From what I've seen on the web yeah, they usually hover around 460MB/s for read and slightly lower for write. I'm getting a MacBook Air with 8GB Ram and an i7 in a few days so I will let you know my results when I get them :) have you tried deleting unused software because it might be full of clutter. Also try ccleaner to free up some space if you're running low.
 
Are you sure it's not a Toshiba NAND with Sandforce controller? They will give low #'s in BlackMagic but don't worry about it too much.
 
These are my read and write speeds, only got it about 1 hours ago.

Hmmm strange. My Toshibs 128GB landed on 228 for write, but maxed at around 277. My read was 468. Pretty quick.

You don't need to "maintain" your Mac and you don't need "cleaner" or "maintenance" apps like CCleaner to keep your Mac running well. Some of these apps can do more harm than good. Some can even degrade, rather than improve system performance.

Some remove files/folders or unused languages or architectures, which does nothing more than free up some drive space, with the risk of deleting something important in the process. These apps will not make your Mac run faster or more efficiently, since having stuff stored on a drive does not impact performance, unless you're running out of drive space.

Some of these apps delete caches, which can hurt performance, rather than help it, since more system resources are used and performance suffers while each cache is being rebuilt. Caches exist to improve performance, so deleting them isn't advisable in most cases.

Many of the tasks performed by these apps should only be done selectively to troubleshoot specific problems, not en masse as routine maintenance.

Mac OS X does a good job of taking care of itself, without the need for 3rd party software. Among other things, it has its own maintenance scripts that run silently in the background on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, without user intervention. You can use Maintidget to see the last time these scripts were run.

It looks like you are in the range for incompressible data if you compare to this review.

The Toshiba uses a Sandforce controller and they don't do well with incompressible data. I believe Black Magic uses incompressible data for their test.
 
Did another test today and it was mostly in the 250 range for write speed and 450 for read. Not sure what was going on yesterday but I think these numbers are more representative
