Hello all,
This is my first post to this forum and I am hoping for some good insights to help me decide how much money I need to sink into a new MBP.
My 2012 15" MBP retina i7 recently died. However, up until that point, it was still doing everything I needed with no problems.
Now I am trying to decide on a new MBP and I need some advice.
I am looking at a 13" model as I need something a little lighter to cart around as I work as a sound engineer and keeping my backpack light is important. Using an external screen when I need more real estate is an easy task at home.
The advice I need is on what specs I would be best to go with. Keeping in mind that my 2012 i7 still did everything I needed with 8gb RAM and a 256 SSD.
Now my real issue is which CPU I need to have considering the price gets fairly rich. I am looking at the i5 model as they are more in my price range. My biggest point of confusion is between a 1.4Ghz i5 and a 2.4Ghz i5. Considering there has been 8 years since my 2012 i7, how do I compare that old CPU to the ones of today? I am not in need of anything hughely faster than what I had. I also notice the max boost between the 1.4Ghz and the 2.4Ghz is almost negligble. I also wonder why they even have a 1.4Ghz version?
Anyway, can any of you more tech savvy people help me figure out my most appropriate option?
Audio recording is the biggest workout my laptop gets.
TIA
GT
