Hi!

I recently bought a 15" Retina from 2012 as my first mac, immensly impressed by it btw, however the current painpoint that I have with the laptop is the battery life. I wouldn't say its horrible - probably lasts 1,5 hours. But it charges quite slowly and I would like to ideally have a battery that lasts around 3 hours or more.

I snooped around here a bit and found coconutBattery which helped me indentify that the battery is a non-oem one with 196 cycles on it. Its listed as having "good" battery status. If anyone is still using at 2012 retina, how much battery life do you usually get out of it and on how many cycles are you?

I'm thinking of paying for a battery replacement kit or non-oem replacment so could anyone with expereince with either tell me what their batteries are like? I paid 200€ for the laptop and an OEM replacment would cost me 150€ which I'm not sure if Im willing to pay for. Thanks!

I’ve have replaced my 2012 15” Retina battery once since I’ve owned from its initial release. It wasn’t hard. I ordered the battery kit through iFixit. The battery is glued in so it does take some patience and time to remove it carefully. But after it was replaced it did work.
