when on the battery the mbp will just go blank, sometimes at 50% reamianing, sometimes lower, around 20%. Its always off before it gets to the teens though.

Any ideas?

I've tried the pram reset a few times

As above sounds like it needs a new battery not a lot more to say really it is six years old if its the original its to be expected.

Is this a 2012 NON-retina MacBook Pro?

If so, the battery is user-replaceable. Easily done with a few tools.
Go to ifixit.com to see the procedure.

I've read mixed reports about the batteries that ifixit.com sells.
You might look elsewhere.
Don't be tempted to buy the cheapest one you see -- a lot of bad replacement parts out there.

You didn't say if there was an Apple Store near you.
I believe they do replacements for $200 (US).
Not sure if they'll still do one on a 2012 MBP.
