Hi everyone,

I'm attending college in the fall and was looking to upgrade my early 2010 MBP. I'll be using my laptop for word, ppt, watching a lot of movies, music, iPhoto and some engineering software like Matlab. My dad said that he'll give me the freedom to choose whatever I want. The specs I'm looking at are 8GB RAM and 512 GB SSD. Suggestions anyone?

Well, by the time you've configured an Air to 8 GB/512 GB, you're well within the price point of a retina MBP. The only real difference is going to be the retina display, and the half pound heavier (and slightly thicker) machine.

If you don't need it until the fall, why not wait a few more months and see what happens? We don't know when exactly the rMBP will be announced.

In the meantime, let the early adopters work out the kinks with the MBA (802.11ac wifi issues, etc.)
