2013 27" iMac memory question

Hello,

I ordered my 27" iMac yesterday with the standard 8GB of memory. If I purchase 16GB can I add it to the two other slots for a total or 24GB or do I need to remove the 8GB and just use the 16GB?

That model supports up to 32GB, in any configuration.
