Hi everyone, my trusty 2013 iMac seems to finally be giving me some issues. It is struggling to get to the login screen and has been stuck here starting up for over 30 minutes. I tried rebooting, safe mode, waiting.... where can I go from here? Thank you!

I should add that I did upgrade the memory to 32GB several years ago without any issue. Could the RAM be failing?

What do you know of the iMac hardware configuration? Hard drive or Fusion Drive or SSD? Try running hardware diagnostics on boot.
Hi, it is the same hard drive from when it was originally purchased, a 1TB 7200 rpm hard drive. I will try diagnostics today.

Let’s try booting in Safe Mode. Hold down Shift key while booting.
Haha I' started doing that an hour ago. I got tired of holding down the shift key so a put a weight on it and it's still booting. Edited: i took the weight off, the screen is like the pic in the first post.

Had a friend with the same issue, start up taking a long time. The solution was to restart and let it run, which took several hours, but it did complete the startup and has been working ok. Their’s was an older iMac also

Yes, I have the feeling that is where it's going at this point 🙂 once it's on I'll make sure I've backed up everything important and go on the search for a new Mac. Many thanks 😊
